Siemens Internship

Personal Add comments

This summer I participated in the Siemens internship program in Atlanta, GA. The internship was a 12 week full time paid internship and there were about 35 interns participating in the program. I worked in product management under the marketing division for the Siemens Energy & Automation operating company.

My department had three other interns for the summer. Two from Georgia Tech, Danny Giglio and Chris Gerard, and one from Purdue, Andy Weidner.

About the Company

Siemens is a global company doing business in 190 countries with a workforce of almost 500,000 employees. They are in several businesses including: Power Generation, Medical, Building Technologies, and Automation & Controls, just to name a few. The group I worked for was Siemens Energy & Automation and more specifically Circuit Protection. Siemens corporate headquarters is in New York and its parent company, Siemens AG, is headquartered in Munich, Germany.

What I Did

As I said before, I worked under product management as was in charge of the VL family of circuit breakers. I mainly was responsible for producing promotional material to support the product family, updating the website content, and developing sales tools for the sales force.

One of the more interesting or technical things I did was write some VBA code to generate a pricing catalog in Excel/Word. This was an excellent experience for me because I have never used VBA before, and it gave me a great opportunity to learn.

Aside from actual work, I took German lessons and participated in Toastmasters. My German is still sub-foundational but I am very interested in continuing my studies.

I also was selected to attend the Siemens Internship Experience which was held in Orlando Fl at Disney World.  This 3 day conference was a great networking experience and an opportunity to learn more about the company and potential careers. Below is a photo of the Siemens Energy & Automation attendees at Epcot.

Conclusion

Reflecting on my internship this summer, it was a great experience to work outside of engineering with such a large global company. I now see the importance of business and management and hope to continue to develop those skill sets. There are many great opportunities at Siemens and I highly recommend anyone to participate in the Siemens internship.
