So you have fallen in love with your new founded friend, the iPhone. Before you decided on making your fancy Cover Flow sporting, multi-touch interface companion an iPod replacement, wait until you hear what is in store for the 6th generation iPod. The new iPod is expected to function similar to the iPhone. It will run OS X and consist of one giant screen with a “software” click wheel.

iPod 6th Generation

Before you get to excited, these are not expected to be released until January 2008. Why the long wait? My best guess is that Jobs is waiting for the price of Flash SSD to drop so they and rid the error-prone hard drives and still make the device affordable. Additionally with the larger screen, power consumption will be a more important issue so the less juice you use to access your media, the more is available to make the screen nice and bright. For now, it is too early to determine specifics about the device. We can only wait for Job’s keynote at MacWorld 2008.
