If you recently downloaded a Safari update, you might not have know that the latest version is the worlds first implementation of the new HTML5 draft standard. So what does all that mean? Well without going into all the details of the new standard, the new standard implements the <video> and <audio> tags to add native support for embedding video and audio into web pages.
Aside from releasing updated iPods across the board today, Apple introduced the iPod touch which is a hybrid breed between the iPod and the iPhone. In addition to playing music, movie, and photos, the iPod touch provides you with access the web, YouTube, and the iTunes WiFi Music Store via it’s integrated WiFi adapter. Although it has multimedia at its heart, the iPod touch seems to be more like a PDA. So then the question is, did Apple just release a PDA in a dying PDA market?
If you know anything about me then you should be well convinced that I am an Apple fanatic. I waste spend several hours a week reading about Apple rumors in hopes of getting to see the “Well be back soon.” sticky note on the Apple Store. Seriously, I can’t think of any other thing I can see on a computer monitor that gets me as excited as the anticipation of new Apple products. Sadly however, I have been long overdue for a new Mac.
So you have fallen in love with your new founded friend, the iPhone. Before you decided on making your fancy Cover Flow sporting, multi-touch interface companion an iPod replacement, wait until you hear what is in store for the 6th generation iPod. The new iPod is expected to function similar to the iPhone. It will run OS X and consist of one giant screen with a “software” click wheel.
Before you get to excited, these are not expected to be released until January 2008. Why the long wait? My best guess is that Jobs is waiting for the price of Flash SSD to drop so they and rid the error-prone hard drives and still make the device affordable. Additionally with the larger screen, power consumption will be a more important issue so the less juice you use to access your media, the more is available to make the screen nice and bright. For now, it is too early to determine specifics about the device. We can only wait for Job’s keynote at MacWorld 2008.
The Apple Store was down earlier today which means Apple is updating a product! What product was given an opportunity to “WOW” us all? This time it was an updated MacBook. Before you get too excited, the update was very minute, and in my opinion disappointing. I guess I was optimistically hoping the MacBook and MacBook Pro would both get Intel Santa Rosa processors and LED backlit LCD screens.

I am seriously considering buying a Apple laptop this summer and was hoping the MacBook would get a nice upgrade first since it has not changed in a while. With this announcement, this new MacBook maybe the only extra “bang for buck” I get. I am however notorious for buying an Apple computer and it going obsolete in a few months (iMac G4: one month later the iMac G5 came out!, iMac G5 with iSight: two months later the MacIntel came along). If I buy this, Apple will no doubt release a brand new product to replace it!. Unless Apple releases the rumored 13″ MacBook Pro with SSD and no optical bay, this will probably be the computer I end up with. Regardless, I will wait until after WWDC 2007 to see what Steve Jobs has to say about the topic.
