I ran across this a while back and never got around to writing about it. This is probably one of the most educational flash apps I have seen in a while. Universcale is a flash app that Nikon created that puts the world in which we live to the concept of “size”. It shows objects that range in size from 10^27 m to 10^-15 m. And if your not familiar with powers of 10. Thats 1000000000000000000000000000 vs. 0.000000000000001 m!

Even expressing the distance change mathematically, it is difficult to comprehend. “Our curiosity brings us to use objects visible to the naked eye as yardsticks to identify those things invisible and to give them new units of measurement. We are now capable of comparing and ranking these entities.”

Einstein’s Famous Equation, Elaborated

Probably the most well know equation in all of science is Einstein’s famous energy, mass equation Einstein 01. What most people don’t know is that this expression is only part of the whole equation. In fact this equation only works for matter that is at rest. Most people also know that Einstein won a noble prize but it wasn’t for relativity at all. In 1921, well after his work on relativity, Einstein received the nobel prize for his explanation of the Photoelectric effect.
