Firefox 3 Set To Break World Record

Internet, Software 2 Comments »

I know it has been a while since my last post and this one is kinda lame, but I wanted to help the Mozilla team out to spread the word. As you may or may not know, Firefox 3 final build was released publicly today bundled with tons of great new features; most notably a performance enhancement. What you may not know is that Mozilla is trying to break a Guinness World Record by having the most downloaded software in a 24 hour period.

To help participate, all you need to do is download Firefox tomorrow! According to the Mozzila blog

Please download Firefox 3 by 17:00 UTC on June 18, 2008. That’s 10:00 a.m. in Mountain View, 1:00 p.m. in Toronto, 2:00 p.m. in Rio de Janeiro, 7:00 p.m. in Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Rome and Warsaw, 9:00 p.m. in Moscow, and June 19, 2008 at 1:00 a.m. in Beijing and 2:00 a.m. in Tokyo.

According to my web analytics, most of you have already use Firefox. Why not enhance your browser even more and help set a record simple by downloading the latest version.

I’ll keep you posted if any records are broken or if their web servers crash trying to handle the demand.

Safari Problems: Upgrading to OS X 10.4.11

Apple, Computers, Software 2 Comments »

If you upgraded to OS X 10.4.11 recently and have noticed a small problem with Safari; it no longer works! The symptoms of this are that Safari will not load any webpage nor will it respond to bookmark links. Is it dead? Probably not.

A quick check under the hood and you will see that along with the 10.4.11 update came Safari 3.0.4. The problem that is happening is that you might have an older version of PicLens installed. What you will need to do is simply uninstall it via the View->PicLens->Remove PicLens menu in Safari and then restart Safari. You should be good to go now. Then just visit PicLens.com and reinstall the newest version of PicLens.

Everyone knows we can’t live without PicLens!

Another annoyance is that I get emails saying that XYZ did JKL and I have to login to see the text (wall post, etc). Although the photos still suck, RIM has released a Facebook BlackBerry App that helps simplify the Mobile User to Facebook interaction. This and other news tells me that we are winning the battle with Facebook in usability vs. pageviews.
